New Bike

Wanda and I have been biking lately. It’s not one of my favorite things to do but Wanda really enjoys it. She can be quite persuasive (just kidding, babe!). I was due for a new bike, though. Earlier this month, we bought a new off-brand bike from Target. The price was right, but we soon learned the front wheel was slightly bent and the shifting didn’t work properly, so we returned it.

A couple of weeks pass, and we found a new bike at Wal-mart. It is a Schwinn Skyliner leisure bike. We were told by several afficionados that we shouldn’t bother with bikes at discount stores, however, we didn’t want to spend a great deal of money. So far, we both like our bikes. Wanda got hers at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and it fits her very well. Mine is extremely comfortable. Time will tell, but hopefully these bikes will last.

Green Bay Blizzard

We saw the Green Bay Blizzard vs. Louisville Fire game at the Resch Center last night. It was the first arena football game I had ever gone to. Wanda had a team outing organized at work, and she wanted me to come along. We also invited our friend Trent.

To be honest, I thought I was going to have an awful time. I generally don’t like football nor annoying crowds. I ended up having a blast. It was $1 beer night, which I took advantage of, and the game was a lot of fun. We had excellent seats, and I liked that it was faster paced than national league football.

Also surprising: I had one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever had from the concession stand, and I hate hot dogs. They were only $1.50 last night as part of the special.

Boating on the ‘bago

This weekend, we took the boat out on Lake Winnebago for the first time this season. It was a little choppy, but we made due. I tried wakeboarding for the first time, but I failed to get up. We went with my brother (who owns the wake board). He actually did better than I did. The water was a little cold but nothing we couldn’t handle.

Today, my whole body is incredibly sore, especially my wrists. I almost shed a tear trying to open a bottle of soda this morning. I got a little sun-burned but nothing that should peel. Just getting a head-start on this summer’s tan.

Boating Season

We’ve been a little slow this year getting the boating season into gear. The weekends have been either busy or had poor weather (the boat was also in for a tune-up over one weekend). We took our boat out for the first time two weekends ago with Wanda’s grandma. We wanted to go on Lake Winnebago, but it was way too windy, so we opted for the Fox River instead. We managed to mess up our prop and skeg pretty badly on some rocks. Fortunately, we had an extra prop. We took it to Ed’s Boat Sales (which is less than a mile from our house) and got the prop replaced and the skeg fixed. Amazingly, it only came to $92! I was thinking it would cost hundreds.

We didn’t take the boat out this past weekend due to the poor weather. Maybe this weekend. I need a truck though – although the Saturn can pull it just fine, the front-wheel drive sucks for pulling the boat out of the water.

By the way, if you’re in the Appleton area and need your boat serviced, I would recommend Ed’s. We’ve seen good service and reasonable rates so far.

Weekend

Wanda and I had a great weekend. We took our boat out for the first time. On Saturday, we took it out on the Fox River. We were still learning the ropes and are still novices, so we didn’t get far, but we had a good time. Sunday was a blast. We went out on Lake Winnebago with my mom and brother. We stayed out a little too long, though. When we launched, the water was quite calm. By the time we went in, the waves were thrashing around our boat. That was a little nerve-wracking for me being only my second time. We can’t wait to take it out again.
