10-year High School Reunion

Last night was the Kaukauna High School’s Class of 1997 10-year reunion. It was a lot of fun – even better than the last. It took place at Big Daddy’s Bar and Grill & Grill in Combined Locks, WI. For $25, there was good food, bottomless rails and beer, and a D.J.

I was surprised at how many people showed up. I didn’t realize the dancing talent in our class! It was good to see old friends. The free drinks ended at midnight, even though they were told it would continue until bar time. That’s probably a good thing because I was bombed by midnight.

I pretended to dance when I got sufficiently drunk. That was a mistake. I hope nobody holds it against me.

Green Bay Blizzard

We saw the Green Bay Blizzard vs. Louisville Fire game at the Resch Center last night. It was the first arena football game I had ever gone to. Wanda had a team outing organized at work, and she wanted me to come along. We also invited our friend Trent.

To be honest, I thought I was going to have an awful time. I generally don’t like football nor annoying crowds. I ended up having a blast. It was $1 beer night, which I took advantage of, and the game was a lot of fun. We had excellent seats, and I liked that it was faster paced than national league football.

Also surprising: I had one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever had from the concession stand, and I hate hot dogs. They were only $1.50 last night as part of the special.

New Year’s

We’re not much for partying, but we decided to go out for New Year’s with our friend Trent. I made New York Strip steaks on the grill, and we enjoyed margaritas while watching the movie, Lucky Number Slevin. We had pondered going to one of the local bars that offered an evening package, but after drinking too many margaritas we decided that wouldn’t make fiscal sense. We ended up going to The Clubhouse bar in the Paper Valley Hotel, enjoyed some spirits, darts, and some lousy complimentary champagne. After that (it was about 1:30am), we wandered around looking for another bar, but they were all too crowded for our us, so we went home and watched the movie, Meet The Fockers. We all had already seen it, which is fortunate since I fell asleep for a good portion of it.

It’s really nice having the smoking ban in Appleton. I just wish Wisconsin would pass a similar state-wide ban. It’s a shame to see what it has done to some of the local bars.
